An elderly Palestinian woman desperate for help, was angered by the brief visit of an EU delegation to Rafah in the Gaza Strip, and tried to block the convoy from leaving. The delegation, lead by Belgian Foreign Minister Louis Michel, visited Palestinians in Gaza who have been forced to live in tents after Israeli Defense Forces used bulldozers to destroy their homes. The action of the Israeli's was in response to Palestinian attacks on a nearby Jewish settlement. The action by the Israeli's was condemed by the United States and Europe as a disproportional response to the Palestinian attacks.
