Refugee children from Afghanistan fight for Red Cross handouts at the Saint Croix Catholic church in Brussels, Belgium. Many of the refugee families have lived in Belgium for five years or more in a state of limbo waiting for their asylum applications to be considered. Due to the recent demise of the Taliban in Afghanistan, the Belgian government handed down a blanket decision requiring that a group of about 1,100 Afghan refugees would have to return to their homeland.
