BRUSSELS, BELGIUM - MAY-14-2010 - On the continental tour, Belgium, a brewing stronghold since the Middle Ages, is a suds-swilling destination and Brussels its Mecca. Join boisterous pilgrims in sampling a few of the 2,000 global beers offered at Delirium Café (Impasse de la Fidélité, 4A; 32-2-514-44-34; deliriumcafe.be) down a narrow, dead-end alley a block behind the Grand Place. The smoky, subterranean bar opened in 2004 and has expanded since to accommodate every alcoholic appetite, encompassing an street-level bar featuring 49 beers on tap (try the citrusy Rulles Blond, 3.50 euros), as well as a second story outlet serving American craft brews, and, across the alley, cocktail joints devoted, separately, to rum and absinthe. Expect a young, college-age crowd, slow service (ordering is a quandary with so many choices) and beer hall décor including barrel tables, brewery mirrors on the walls and trays on the ceiling.
