Assembly of the Poor
DownloadA child enjoys a cool bath on ahot Bangkok afternoon. A group of about 300 farmers and their families from the North East of Thailand have been camping outside the walls of the Government House in Bangkok to protest government policies towards farmers. Many of these families have had their land taken by the government without compensation to make way for the building of damns and similar projects. They call themsleves the "Assembly of the Poor", and their aim is to counter the urban domination of politics. Many have lived in this make shift community for eight months. (Photo © Jock Fistick)
